Marketing is filled with so many acronyms that can leave you confused. Having a thorough understanding of these terms means you are staying on top of the latest growth trends and you can quickly break them down to the rest of your teams.

Now let’s get to it…

A/B Testing

This is the process of comparing two ads to determine which performs best to help improve marketing efforts. 

Analytics

This is the discovery and understanding of meaningful patterns in data.

Bounce Rate

This is the metric that displays the percentage of people who lands on your website and leave without clicking to any other page on your website.  

Buyer Persona

This is the fictionalized characterization of your best customers (s) based on information about them and how they use your product or services. 

Call to action (CTA)

The immediate response or action you want your audience to take when they see your content advert. For example, call now, learn more etc. 

Click through rate (CTR)

The percentage of individuals who clicks on a specific advertisement that appears on the page. 

Conversion Rate

The percentage of people who completed a desired action on a single web page, such as calling or filling a form. 

Cost per lead

This is the amount it costs you to acquire a new lead. This factors heavily into cost per acquisition cost (CAC) and is a metric marketers should always pay attention to. 

Crowdsourcing

This is a collective intellectual gathering of information that comes from the public and then used to complete a business related task. 

Cascading style sheets (CSS)

This is what gives your entire website its style like colors, fonts and background images. It affects the mood and tone of a web page, making it an incredibly powerful tool. 

Engagement rate

A metric that measures the level of engagement that a piece of created content is receiving from an audience.

 Inbound link

An inbound link is a link coming from another site to your website.

Landing page

This is an important marketing term. it is a website page containing a form that is used for lead generation. This page revolves around a marketing offer, such as an eBook or a webinar, and serves to capture visitor information in exchange for the valuable offer.

Lead

A person or company who’s shown interest in a product or service in some way, shape, or form.

On page optimization

 This type of SEO is based solely on a webpage and the various elements within the HTML.

Off page optimization:

Off-page SEO refers to incoming links and other outside factors that impact how a webpage is indexed in search results.

PPC

Stands for pay-per-click, a model of digital marketing in which advertisers pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked.

Search Engine Optimization

The practice of enhancing where a webpage appears in search results.

Social Proof

This is the psychological phenomenon in which people seek direction from those around them to determine how they are supposed to act or think in a given situation.

User experience (UX)

The overall experience a customer has with a particular business, from their discovery and awareness of the brand all the way through their interaction, purchase, use, and even advocacy of that brand.
